[edit] The Institute Of Creative Technologies

‎

The IOCT is a unique research environment which sits at the intersection of science, technology, humanities and the arts. It comprises a network of Research Centres and Groups embedded in the Faculties of De Montfort University. Since its launch in September 2006 it has initiated over 100 interdisciplinary and collaborative projects, carried out by more than 90 researchers.

The IOCT has a core team of Professors and Research Fellows, a group of high-profile Visiting Professors, many Faculty-based Researchers, a cohort of PhD researchers, and a Masters programme that is taught across three Faculties. We actively engage with local industry, and have close relationships with several large companies, SMEs, and government organisations.

The IOCT's facilities comprise the Main Lab (a large flexible space with a vast array of technologies, and including social and exhibition areas), a Fused Media Lab, a Usability Lab, and a Virtual Environment Centre. We regularly exhibit work and run seminars and other events in Leicester's new Digital Media Centre Phoenix Square.

Our research is either interdisciplinary (applying the methods from one discipline to another), multidisciplinary (teams from various disciplines combining to investigate a research question) or transdisciplinary (across and beyond all disciplines). We have two broad research themes: 'Quality of Life' and 'Cultural Horizons'.

New technologies are transforming the world of human creativity in ways unimagined just a few years ago. To some, this is an end in itself. To us, this is just the beginning...
