[edit] Information
The Unconference is due to be held at the IOCT on September 13th. The event is by invitation only but if you haven't been invited and wish to attend please contact Bruce Mason (by mail - bmason01 at dmu.ac.uk). Although places are limited we may be able to add a couple of extra people.
The preliminary schedule for the day is:
10:30 - Registration and coffee
11:00 - Presentation by Howard Rheingold
11:15 - The day ahead by Sue Thomas
11:30 - Whole group: agenda setting
12-3:00 - The Unconference by you
3:15-4:00 - Whole group: closing session
A buffet lunch will be served at 12:30 and tea will be served at 3pm.
[edit] Format
What is an unconference? It is not a conference. The intent is to provide an open space in which you decide what to do. It is not an unorganised conference. The organisation of the day depends on you. The PART group facilitate by organising a space and food and timekeeping. Between us we will, apparently, "perform the seemingly impossible".
There are some links out there, some of which point to slightly overheated explanations but as good a place as anywhere to start is Wikipedia's explanation. Presently we're planning to adopt Open Space Technology's format for the day (hence the schedule above) and a brief (if overheated) explanation of the principles involved can be found here. There is also an interesting blog at [1].
[edit] You are
In control. Technically this section should really be called "us". What we need to do to make the day a success is two-fold.
- prepare the day properly
- turn up and be creative
To help prepare the day properly wwe will expand the information on the wiki. To help with this lets start with the traditional delegate page. Our information from the May 2007 Colloquium has been added, please check your entry and turn it into something that makes you happy.
Of course, to contribute to this wiki you will need an account as anonymous editing has been turned off. To get an account you need to email Lisa McNicholl and let her know that you have been invited to the Transliteracy Unconference.
